Getting rid of Acne ScarsAcne is a common skin problem that leaves behind scars which is a cosmetic displeasure. Usually, acne scars will fade on their own but the time taken for it is longer. To help fasten this process, there are several treatments and natural home remedies of which a few are listed below.

  1. Natural Remedies – lemon juice is the best bleaching agent for skin which lightens the acne scars. Mix lemon juice and water in equal proportions and apply on the skin and leave it for 15-20 minutes before washing it off. Moisturize immediately to prevent dry skin. Baking soda is another natural exfoliate which minimizes the presence of scars. Mix a spoon of baking soda with two spoons of water and rub the paste in circular motions on the scars. Do it for few minutes and wash with warm water.     Honey is another anti bacterial agent that is good for skin since it reduces inflammation. Dab raw honey directly on the scar using a q-tip. Additionally, you can mix a pinch of pearl powder along with honey to make the treatment more effective. Aloe vera is another natural substance that helps rejuvenate and moisturize the skin by fading away the scars. The sap from the plant can be directly applied on the scar with a drop of tea tree oil for an intense acne scars treatment.
  1. Medical Treatments – cortisone is the most common over the counter drug that is used to treat scars. It helps reduce inflammation and promote skin healing. Skin lightening creams that contain licorice extract, mulberry extract and Vitamin C will lighten the scars without any damage. Creams, scrubs and ointments containing glycolic and salicylic acid are exfoliates that will shed layers of skin which will soon reduce the scars and help disappear. Retinoid containing skin care items help in reducing wrinkles, skin discoloration and acne. It boosts collagen production and cell turnover which is one of the most effective treatments to get rid of acne scars. However, this needs to be suggested by a dermatologist based on your skin type. If the scars don’t fade for several months, then laser treatment would be the last option. It helps stimulate collagen production and vaporise the scar to allow new skin form in its place.
  1. Skin Care – to prevent scars from appearing on skin, you need to protect your skin from ultraviolet rays. This can be done by using a sunscreen, wearing a wide brimmed hat or staying in the shade as much as possible. A lot of care needs to be taken before choosing the skin care products for daily use. Based on the skin type, gentle products that suit you need to be chosen. Also, hot water needs to be avoided to prevent irritation and dryness. Exfoliating on a regular basis will help remove dead skin cell leaving fresh, soft and new skin underneath. A facial scrub that suits your skin can be used 3 – 4 times a week by applying it in circular motions and washing off with warm water.
