The small, painful sores that form inside the mouth are called canker sores.Theresulting pain can make eating and talking very difficult. Canker sores often heal themselves in a week or so, while there are many simple home remedies to get rid of a canker sore. These are more common among women and young adults. Canker sores can develop for a variety of reasons like when you are stressed out, bite your lip, have braces for teeth or if you have been consuming foods with a lot of acidic content. Women may get canker sores during their menstrual cycle.
Make a salt water solution by mixing a spoon of salt in a glass of luke warm water. Rinse your mouth with this solution several times a day.
When you have canker sores, eat soft, bland food that does not hurt or cause irritation to the sores. Avoid having caffeinated drinks and sodas, citrus fruits and spicy foods. If it is very painful, try having your food mashed.
MILK OF MAGNESIA
Using magnesia milk on the canker sore may help to reduce the pain and also reduce the acidic environment of the mouth. Dab the sore with this liquid several times a day.
Using a mouth wash helps to keep your mouth clean and free from bacteria. Mouth washes contain antiseptic that can reduce the amount of bacteria in the mouth and help canker sores to heal fast. Do not use too much as this can reduce the helpful bacteria in your mouth.
Make a paste of baking soda and water. Apply this to the canker sore directly. You can also make a solution of water and baking soda and use this as a rinse. Baking soda helps to reduce the amount of bacteria in the mouth.
There are many topical pastes available in the drug stores that can be applied on the canker sore to relieve the pain and also help them to heal faster. Use these pastes two-three times a day for better results. There are some topical pastes available that can numb the pain for sometime so that you can carry on with your normal activities like eating and drinking.
Keeping your mouth healthy is a great way to prevent these sores from developing frequently. Flossing daily and brushing your teeth twice a day properly helps maintain cleanliness in your mouth, thus decreasing the chances of a canker sore in the mouth. Use toothpastes that do not contain sodium lauryl sulphate.
Make a solution with equal parts of water and hydrogen peroxide. Dip a cotton ball into this and dab on the canker sore directly. This can be done three to four times a day.
Canker sores can be caused due to vitamin deficiencies also. If you are getting these sores frequently, get them checked by your doctor to know the exact problem. Since stress and anxiety can also lead to canker sores, make sure to get enough rest and try adopting some distressing activities to get rid of canker sores.
